Bio
Crystal City is the folk pop lovechild of Dave Helmer and Sam Drella. Formed during the summer of 2009 in Marshalltown, IA, Helmer and Drella both have had extensive but separate experiences writing and performing music. Since combining forces for their debut, self-titled release, their music has taken on a life of its own with organic, freeing qualities. It's easy to notice that Crystal City is rooted in music of the 70s, citing singer/songwriters Gram Parsons, Emmylou Harris and Paul Westerberg as influences. But to classify them as strictly a classic folk-rock inspired band would be ignoring the fresh and modern touch they add to their craft.
